Oncology Massage

Cancer affects people in a number of different ways. Common side effects of cancer and its treatment include stress, anxiety, pain, depression, weight loss, and reduced appetite, as well as feelings of loss and emotional imbalance. I was a cancer nurse for eight years and have a huge amount of knowledge in cancer, treatments and side effects, as well as hands on experience of caring for cancer scars and medical equipment such as PICC lines, catheters and stoma bags.

Oncology massages are tailored to meet the needs of people living with cancer, at any point of their treatment journey. It’s now recognised that oncology massage can really help to manage treatment side effects and symptoms. This is a really inclusive massage, drawing on my years of experience working as a cancer nurse to adapt around every client’s individual needs. My focus throughout is providing relaxation and respite from the impact of a diagnosis.

Massage cannot cause or spread cancer. Massage is safe and gentle and I will adapt the treatment for each individual client to ensure they are comfortable and relaxed. I will use unscented massage wax or oil but can use a diffuser to create a beautiful, relaxing scent within the treatment room if you wish. Those suffering from nausea and taste changes may enjoy the gentle aroma of ginger oil, known for its ability to relieve nausea.

You can chose full body massage, or upper body (back, neck and shoulders) or lower body (legs and feet). Head and neck massage can be added into any treatment. You may be positioned on your front, back or lying on your side during your treatment, depending on personal preference or taking into consideration your cancer site or any areas which may feel sore after surgery or radiotherapy, ensuring your comfort and dignity throughout your treatment.
